A smart trip to discover the joys of Italy has to include a visit to Pisa to see the famous white marble leaning bell-tower and the other fantastic buildings on the Piazza del Duomo, with the Baptistry, Camposanto (closed cemetery), and of course the Duomo, all built primarily in pure Roman style.

Driving down towards Livorno, a very lively harbour town, you can stop off at the Cosmopolitan course designed by David Mezzacane over flat and tree-less terrain. A links style was essential here to create some sort of lively addition to the open space, and only the introduction of a few water hazards gives this a slight American flavour. Despite everything, the whole course has retained an unexpected very natural appearance. Playing to your handicap here isa tall order, especially when the wind blows and even more so when playing from the back-tees. Yet the wide fairways and nicely-sized greens help forgive the shortcomings of inexperienced players.
