The Milano Golf Club was founded in 1928 and was designed by the architect Blenford. It was the only course within easy reach of the city and one of the very few in existence in Italy at that time. The setting of the huge Park of Monza, former seat of the Austrian Empire just 20 kilometres far from Milan was ideal for the purpose with its splendid English-style parkland. Today the Milano Golf Club is one of the most exclusive, and is difficult to get into in both senses- to be accepted for membership and to find the entrance (go right round the high walls enclosing the park to get to Porta San Giorgio). The Italian Open tournaments have often been held on this splendid course with 18 holes + 9 as it is a technically excellent and complete course. The team of club professionals is particularly good.

Located close to the capital of Lombardy in the Parco di Monza, this is obviously one of the most prestigious Italian clubs cultivating real golfing tradition, as testified by the annual encounter with the members of the Royal & Ancient at St. Andrews. Gannon and Blanford laid the course out over flat terrain, where majestic trees create both a feeling of isolation and pleasant exclusivity, and a formidable line of defence for hitters who slug rather than think. The very many bunkers ably defend the average-sized greens that are slightly contoured and very well maintained. Here you get the feeling of playing in a huge park, where the silence is disturbed only on those days when the Monza race-track is in action. With good courses (27 holes in all) well suited to all standards of play, plus a huge, functional and luxurious clubhouse, which has replaced the former hunting lodge, the Golf Club Milano has a great future in store.
