Footwear, rolilng stock and particularly cars (Ferrari in Maranello) have forged the reputation of Modena... together with the Duomo and the fine collection of paintings at the Galleria Estense. Created in 1987, the Modena Golf & Country Club course was designer by Bernard Langer, certainly during the period when he was working with Buckely. Since then, the GErman champion has covered a lot of ground and acquired maturity in his work as a course architect. Here, the design faithfully hugs the contours of rather flat terrain, where trees are not a danger. Playing strategy is obvious as soon as you are on the course. Hazards are basically the bunkers and very present water hazards, especially on two of the par 3s and at the end, on the 18th, where daring may be rewarded or simply ruin your card. This is a real members' course where playing levels are necessarily very different, and where the more skilled player might feel a little frustrated. Lovers of natural courses will find this layout a little artificial, but one which matures will with age.
