When you love tear-jerking tales of love and grief, you can hardly wish of a better setting than Verona, home to the tragic story of Romeo and Juliette. The house (Via Cappello) and tomb of Juliette are worth going out your way for after an opera at the Arena or a coffee on the Piazza delle Erbe. Whichever way you look at it, Verona is a superb city made even more attractive by the closeness of Lake Garda. The Verona Golf Club was founded in 1963 and the course laid out in two stages by John Harris, in a British parkland style consistent with the architect's own style. Very hilly, this course warrants a buggy for the more unfit golfer and a lot of concentration to hit some elevated greens (and one blind green as well). The first holes are rather narrow and tricky to negotiate - some dangerous out-of-bounds await the mis-hit shot - while the back 9 are wider with a few water hazards and shouldn't do too much damage to your card if you have scored well over the front nine.
